ACR accredited for Stereotactic Breast Biopsy
The American College of Radiology (ACR) has awarded the Women's Center for Radiology a three-year accreditation in Stereotactic Breast Biopsy as a result of a recent survey.  The ACR awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice.  Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists, experts in their field, who assess the qualifications of the personnel, and safety and quality of the facility's equipment.

This makes the Women's Center for Radiology the only stand-alone imaging center in Orlando that is accredited for stereotactic biopsy procedures.  There are only 28 facilities accredited for stereotactic biopsy in the state of Florida.

Dr. Susan Curry Named 'Best Doctor' in Central Florida
Dr. Susan Curry, founder and medical director of Women's Center for Radiology, was recognized in Orlando Magazine's Best Doctors 2007 list as a leading doctor in Central Florida. In the December issue, 130 Central Florida physicians were chosen through a peer-review survey from the Best Doctors in America® database. Doctors participating in the survey were asked "If you or a loved one needed a doctor in your specialty, to whom would you refer them?"

Dr. Curry was highlighted in this special section with a full-color photo and biography of her leadership in the field of radiology. The article also featured the technological advancements the Women's Center for Radiology has brought to Central Florida, including being the only imaging center in the southeast United States that offers G.E. Breast Spectroscopy, a technique that results in an accurate and noninvasive way to make breast cancer diagnoses. Dr. Curry is board certified by the American College of Radiology in diagnostic radiology and nuclear radiology. She founded Women's Center for Radiology in 1981.

Digital Mammography
We are proud to provide the latest technology in mammography by being the first imaging center in Central Florida to offer Full-Field Digital Mammography with CAD (Computer Aided Detection). In 2005, Women's Center for Radiology moved from traditional film-screen mammography to fully digital Hologic® Selenia® systems. Digital mammography uses electronic imaging of the breast and stores the data directly on a computer. This allows the images to be enhanced, magnified or manipulated for further evaluation, and studies have shown that digital mammography is more accurate in women under the age of 50 years or with dense breast tissue. Now in our third year of being fully digital, we are able to provide our patients with either a film copy of their mammogram, or a compact disc (CD) containing their studies.

MR Mammography/Breast MRI/Spectroscopy
Since the installation of our high-field 1.5T GE Signa® Excite® MRI in 2004, Women's Center for Radiology has increased our MR services, adding state of the art features such as VIBRANT® (Volume Imaging Breast Assessment) and High-Definition imaging. While HD imaging produces a superior image, in late 2007 Women's Center for Radiology added GE's HDx protocol (High Definition eXpert®), supercharging HD performance with lightning speed and superb image quality.

Women's Center for Radiology is again at the forefront of cancer detection, adding Magnetic Resonance Breast Spectroscopy (MR BREASE®) to our services for patients with dense breasts and indeterminate mammograms. Spectroscopy is used to define the extent of disease by looking at the chemical makeup of the breast. MR BREASE® improves the ability to distinguish benign breast lesions from cancerous ones by showing elevated levels of choline, a strong indicator of malignancy.

To further refine our images and provide physicians with better tools for early cancer detection, Women's Center for Radiology is the only Central Florida facility offering HDx Breast MRI and breast spectroscopy, and serves as both a show-site for GE and a training facility for Breast MRI and Breast MR Biopsies.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) / MRA
Our services include the ability to provide Cardiac and Vascular MRI/MRA, brain, spine, abdominal, and pelvic MR studies for our patients. Images are processed and read on the GE ReportCard® system for Volume analysis, or on the TeraRecon® Advanced 3-D workstation for real-time volume visualization and advanced image processing.

3D/4D Ultrasonography
In 2007 we completed the purchase and installation of five new Philips Medical Systems HD11XE® ultrasound systems. These high-definition ultrasound machines are capable of visualizing in both 3D & 4D to provide our physicians with an accurate and detailed view of tissue and organs.
